The Nobel PEACE PRIZE

http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/peace/laureates/2007/

He shouldn't have won. It degrades the entire Nobel franchise. His work was not peace related nor was any great feat of peace achieved by him. Secondly, it is little known that Sheila Watt-Cloutier, a long time climate campaigner, head of the Inuit Circumpolar Council and a Canadian was originally co-nominated with Gore. She can at least claim to have worked for the peace and security of the inuit in the face of climatic impacts. She was denied so that an organization... AN ORGANIZATION! could share the prize with GORE.

TO hell with Gore and the Nobel geezers.

Cheers,

P

PS and I say this a as strong proponent of action on climate change and as someone who has worked in the feild for some time. This is crap.

  • Yeah, I think it was the wrong decision too. But, it isn't as bad as the UN and Kofi Annan splitting the prize in 2001. Talk about undeserving.

  • In principle, I agree...but just look at what it's done to the right-wingers in the States. That has got to be worth something!

  • Dave,

While I agree its a nice 'poke in the eye' to the US administration, I don't believe the nobel peace prize is about political jabs. It needs to be above that. It needs to recognize individuals both ordinary and mighty for work done to enhance peace.

Besides, I'd say 'what's happened to the right-wingers in the States' they've pretty much done to themselves.

    Cheers,

    P
