FEAST

This is just to remind all of you that this weekend, the last of july is the Feast of Essence
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=feast+of+essence (yes I put it in)

Also to remind you that the holiday is traditionally (although not essentially) inaugurated on the friday night with the drinking of slurpee and the watching of Dr. Strangelove.

This year most people I know will be out of town. Liz is going home to look for a wedding dress with her mom, Adam will be at a goat show, and feiner and glenn are usually busy.

Anyway maybe it will be a quiet feast where I can catch up on some well diserved R&R and SLEEP!

Anyway Happy Feast everyone!

Cheers,

P

  • ah, yes.. feast... I think I may even go and rent, "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers" as a bonus item...

    mm... slurpee...

  • Feast! I shall have to introduce James to the wonders of the Feast! If we have a Frescato from Cota Coffee, is that similar to a Slurpee?

  • Sigh, my feast of essence will be spent working on a take-home final. Next year, in Ottawa!

  • Isaac! Holy_Shit you're alive!

Elle, please feel free to spread the good word of feast far and wide. I would think that a lot of your friends would enjoy this holiday.

Doug, try to do something this weekend to wipe away the dissapointments of the past year!

    Cheers,

  • Happy Feast everybody!

We're off to a good start here. I've got Strangelove on my desk just waiting for tonight. Then there's BBQ and bowling (with food and drink!) tomorrow. Good times!

    Grebelsraum!

  • GREBELSRAUM!

    HUZZAH.

I think feiner and I might be doing fireworks. I actually have quite a bit to do around the house this weekend but its still going to be a great time

    Cheers,

  • I spent the feast playing at Dave and Buster's, followed by a steak and shrimp dinner at Perkins. No doubt about it, I felt a great deal less disappointed when it was all over!

  • just in time for the feast, the image of the day was appropriate: image of the day

  • Hey!

I forgot about the feast, but I had my first vacation ever since coming to Japan on Friday and used it well by sleeping in, spending inordinate amounts of money on food and entertainment (if you ever come to Tokyo, Roppongi Hills is the place). So I guess I got the basics right ;-)

    Cheers,

    F

P.S.: I also took Monday off and went with a mate from Reuters and his friends to the Reuters Japan cabin on the beach in Izu for a day of swimming, onsen and BBQ. Even got a sunburn. Happy :-)

P.P.S.: I wonder if they have slurpee over here. Which stores do sell it over there?

  • 7-Eleven, you doofus!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:04 AM

  • The 7-11s in Taiwan don't have Slurpees (in fact, I didn't see anything remotely like a Slurpee anywhere over there). I wouldn't be surprised if the same is true in Japan.

By Blogger Dave, at 11:12 AM

  • Indeed they don't. Thanks anyways.

    Cheers,

  • I think its quite reasonable that numerous people not from North American may not necessarily even know what a 7-eleven is. That said from what I know there are 7-elevens in many countries around the world.

I'm not sure what Japan would have that even comes close but maybe some blended drink (fun happy syrop drink base) or something else suitably named for Japan.

Glad to hear you finally relaxed falco. I think you needed it from what you were telling me. Try to do that more often. YOu'll also have to give me the scoop on the reuter's pad.

    Cheers,

    P

  • Isaac! Yes, it's good that you're ALIVE!

I don't remember the photo you described. Show me again!

  • Hey Issac,

Can you email me your address (that's french for address) so you can get a wedding invitation?

    Thanks,

    P

  • Actually 7-eleven these days is a Japanese-owned company. It was bought by Ito-Yokado (which is why it is currently rebranding itself as 7 & I in Japan to combine both store brands) in 1991 with the left-over money they had from the bubble.

Still, we never got Slurpees or Big Gulps, which I know exist in the US. However, in summer all over Japan you can get a kakigori, which is simply a bowl of crushed ice mixed with a delicious syrup and (especially in its Korean version) often some fruits and sauces.

The Reuters cabin was fantastic and I have pictures to proove it. Shows that there are good employers around. Maybe I should learn French and get a job at the Canadian embassy. ;-)

Also what about 1004? For me that spells out "Cheonsa" in Korean and also means angel...

    Cheers,

    F
